Interactive Spaces in Animation
Last week I went to a talk about “Interactive Spaces in Animation” at Animation Festival Fantoche in Baden, Switzerland. They had some super interesting people presenting their projects which were showcased in the festival exhibition as well.
“Modern Polaxis” by interactive comic artist Sutu was my favourite one. “Modern Polaxis” is an augmented reality comic book presented as at the private journal of paranoid time traveller Modern Polaxis (the book is named after the guy). In his notebook Polaxis writes about his day to day life. He hides all the secret information, paranoid delusions and conspiracy theories, in a special Augmented Reality layer. This extra bit of information about Polaxis’ life can only be unlocked by scanning the pages with the App that comes with the book.
So, if you buy the book, you get access to download the “Polaxis” App for free. When use the App and point your camera at the pages of the book Polaxi’s notes will come to life.
Sutu describes his project very well in a movie on Kickstarter.
Below a few pictures that give an idea how the comic book looks with and without the Augmented Reality layer.
