Picture Book + App

Picture Book + App

MAGPIE is a collection of seven playful animated loops, 21 mini loops and riddles, an App for mobile devices and a beautiful picture book.

How does this work?
After researching a lot about Apps and books and books that give you access to extra digital information I made a nice
concept for MAGPIE. The movie above gives an idea how this works.

Scan the QR code on the first page with your mobile device to download the App.

While downloading the App, you can look at the pictures in the book. The seven moments or scenes are illustrated on 14 colourful double pages. (In the above movie I show you a sketch for each double page of the book.)

In each scene you need to spot a few hidden symbols and scan them with the App. As soon as the App recognises the symbol it will give you access to a mini loop or a riddle which gives more insight into a detail of the scene.

After scanning all symbols of the scene you will be able to watch the full loop.

Some scenes give you a different task. In “Six for the Sky” for example you need to connect the stars in the sky to find the infinity symbol which gives access to the loop.

People who don’t have a copy of the picture book could page through the scenes on their mobile device, find the symbols and click instead of scan them.

→ The pictures in the movie are storyboard sketches. The final look and feel of each scene is still in development.
→ The soundtrack of the movie is “Green Blood Circulation” by Tim and Puma Mimi. Check them out!
